You're Entering Into the Wild and Wacky World of Chickens

Going from the Kitchen to the Chickens

A while back, Anthony Bourdain committed suicide, a terrible way to go and not well understood in the world of mental health professionals, especially for someone who seemed to have everything to live for.  I’d heard his name, but that was about the extent of what I knew about the man. I guess the main reason for that is I'd never surfed the particular channel he was featured on. It didn’t take long to discover what I had been missing; chef extrordinaire, world traveler, writer, womanizer and all around “bad boy”.  A huge talent for sure, and a real shame that he is no longer with us.
Since then I’ve watched several of his made for TV specials and heard that he’d written a book about many of his  exploits, in and around countless kitchens of the world and called it “Chicken Confidential”, I thought “Man, this guy must have had a real sense of humor”.  Turns out that his book was “Kitchen Confidential” and it was my industrially impaired hearing loss to blame for the mix-up. But I started thinking, “why not write a blog or something like that, titled “Chicken Confidential”.  To the best of my knowledge , no one had done it so far, so why not me? So here it is, for better or for worse; Chicken Confidential.

There is, no doubt,  inexhaustible material concerning chickens, probably more than there is about kitchens.  On top of that chickens can be funny, weird, tough, beautiful and a whole gamut of adjectives one can use to write about the chicken.  Kitchens, however are usually hot, dirty, greasy and come with a wide range of odors, more often than not, involving hot, dirty, greasy and smelly work.

That said, I'd like to thank Anthony Bourdain posthumously for inspiring me to take on this endeavour. You are entering the wild, wacky and bizarre world of The Chicken. So sit back and let Chicken Confidential guide you through the realm of one of man's most invincible creatures to peck and scratch the face of the earth. Nothing fancy, but I hope you enjoy following it as I enjoy putting it together.

  1. I'm in! Let the fun begin. I read Bourdain's book years ago, but hadn't known about his TV specials until I read his sad obits. Now, I'm an avid viewer.
